On Tuesday October 2, 2012 City Council members will cast their vote to pass a resolution to AGANIST Citizens United. Greensboro will be the 11th city in North Carolina to do so. Please join us at City Hall and fill its chamber and halls with people who understand how toxic this decision is. We must all stand together on this issue please! The resolution will be item #30 on the agenda and will be heard sometime after the 7:30 break. If you wish to speak during the public speaking portion of the meeting you mush sign in before 5:30. Buttons AGAINST Citizens United will be passed out so we can be clearly picked out by Council. Thanks for your help!!
1. Attend the Oct 2nd Council Meeting!!!
It’s VITAL that we pack the Council chambers the night of the vote on the resolution -that means getting 100+ people to attend the meeting. Before the vote is taken, people will be offered a chance to speak. You do not have to speak, but speakers on behalf of the resolution will ask folks in favor to stand, to sign and support. Your presence matters!!!
Greensboro City Council meetings are held at the Council Chamber on the second floor of Melvin Municipal Office Building, 300 W. Washington St. Free parking is available in the Greene Street Parking Deck after 5pm. The meeting starts at 5:30 pm, and is likely to go on for quite a while. The resolution will not be the first item on the agenda, so it’s okay to come after the meeting has started. Be prepared to hang out for a while, because there’s no telling how fast they’ll run through the agenda. Bring a book, or just
listen in-it’s all interesting!
4. Bring 2 friends to the Oct 2nd City Council Meeting! (Or at least get them to to email or phone ahead of time!)
This movement will be successful if we can show that large numbers of Greensboro residents are opposed to the Citizens United ruling and want to see an end to corporate personhood. Some Council members think this issue is not important, just a “distraction.” That’s why it’s key that EVERY council member hear from and see hundreds of people in support of the resolution.

3. By 10/02, phone your District Rep- leave a message of support for the Resolution.
A phone call or even a phone message makes a HUGE impact! Just state your name and address, and that you hope the Council member will support the resolution to end corporate personhood! You can call any and all council members and the Mayor. If you have time to make only one call – call your District Rep. You don’t have to say anything complicated – just respectfully convey that you want your Rep to support the resolution. If you want to get fancy, tell them why it’s important to YOU!
October 14, 2012 at Glenwood Coffee and Books
The Occupy movement was born a year ago, and here in Greensboro, hundreds of people took to the streets on October 15, 2011, marching in solidarity with the protestors of Wall St, and joining together in defense of human rights from corporate corruption. The movement fueled the formation of Occupy Greensboro, an open organization of activists, friends and community members with democratic values and nonviolent principles, whose motto is “We are the 99%.”
We are calling on you to join us, whether you have yet to check out what Occupy Greensboro has been up to, or have been tied up with life and haven’t made it to an event in a while, to refuel the movement and to re-energize each other! It is time to see old friends, meet new friends, connect with interested members of our community, and to celebrate all of the efforts of our first year together.

House Warming Party to Fight Foreclosure!
What: Peaceful protest against home foreclosures and in support of the Cruz family
When: Wednesday, June 20, 10am-2pm
Where: 607 Green Valley Rd. (see map below)
3,300,000 homes have been lost to foreclosure nation wide since 2010. There are 296 NEW foreclosure fillings per month in Guilford County. The foreclosure crisis is a direct result of the corporate malfeasance and bank fraud perpetrated by the 1% against the 99%. Occupy Greensboro stands in solidarity with everyone facing foreclosure and the many groups that are working to help families in foreclosure.
Since April 30, Occupy Homes MN has been working with the Cruz family, whose home went into foreclosure after a bank error. PNC Bank executives acknowledged their error and repeatedly told Cruz supporters that they’re working on a solution. However, they’ve refused to work with the family, instead working with Freddie Mac and the city of Minneapolis to launch a series of costly police raids against the home. These raids resulted in 23 arrests in less than a week.

Despite ongoing protests, the banks still think we’ll go away if they ignore us long enough. It’s time to show them otherwise: on June 19, Alejandra and David Cruz will be travelling along with a team of supporters to PNC Bank’s Pittsburgh headquarters to hand-deliver their modification documents and demand a meeting with CEO Jim Rohr!
Occupy Greensboro stands in solidarity with Occupy Homes MN’s call for a national day of action on PNC to coincide with the Cruz’s arrival. Join us tomorrow at the PNC Bank branch at 607 Green Valley Rd in the Friendly Shopping Center from 10am – 2pm. We’ll hold a symbolic house warming party for the thousands of Guilford County residents who have lost their homes by moving into a UHAUL trailer!
Bring food, bring house warming gifts, and then go tell the bank manager that you expect them to work with the Cruz family the next day when they visit PNC Bank’s corporate headquarters.
