Occupy Greensboro’s General Assembly is the primary decision-making body of our local movement. It is a direct democratic process that uses consensus techniques to reach decisions. Click here to read about the consensus process the GA uses.
As you prepare your idea as a proposal, think about the following points. Being as clear and comprehensive as possible in your language before you bring it to the GA will help move this through the discussion and decision process.
- Is your proposal for an action, a solidarity statement, a longterm project?
- Be clear in your language so that others can easily understand what you are proposing.
- Think about the obvious questions others may have and try to incorporate them in the text.
- Will this proposal require any resources? If so, what?
- Does this proposal require other people’s input and participation? Be as precise as possible so people know what they are signing up for.
This forum is the place to post your idea for a proposal. Other people will read it and give you feedback. Be prepared for constructive criticism. In general, having input on proposals from other people creates stronger proposals. Be open and welcoming to new ideas and concepts. Label the topic for your proposal as clearly as possible. Answer questions politely and as thoroughly as you can.
If you see a proposal here that you want to comment on, do so politely and with good intentions. Remember, sarcasm and irony often do not transmit well via the internet. Someone may be very connected to an idea here and they are looking for feedback and positive criticism.
