The North Carolina Cooperators Gathering is an opportunity for social justice activists and those interested in growing cooperative businesses and economies in North Carolina to gather, learn more about cooperatives and network with like-minded people across the state.

Today, as broader economic systems fail to provide our communities with affordable access to quality food, safe housing and dignified jobs, people in North Carolina and around the country are looking for alternatives.

There’s a long history of cooperative businesses being developed to meet the needs of marginalized and under-served communities. This work is directly tied to the Civil Rights Movement and struggles around social justice and democracy.

Who should attend? If you are active in your community struggling for community-based economic development, you should come. If you are a social justice activist out on the front lines and trying to figure out how to turn your community’s resistance into work building your own economic institutions, you should come. If you are involved in economic development because you want to help people create stronger, healthier communities but are unsatisfied with the typical kinds of businesses people are starting, you should come.

Friday night will be optional, but you’re strongly encouraged to attend. We’ll have a brief welcoming, a delicious dinner and plenty of time for socializing and networking so you will get to know folks from across the state. Saturday we’ll start early with a program that promotes interaction and engagement.

The facilities at Camp Chestnut Ridge include comfortable indoor sleeping and bathrooms, flexible meeting space, and the meals are included.

With the help of Carolina Common Enterprise and the Fund for Democratic Communities, the cost for participation is low – only $25!

No one will be turned away do to cost, but we encourage you to contact the organizing committee to inquire about scholarships. Email Tyler at [email protected] for more information.

Please mark these dates on your calendar now and register soon – we look forward to seeing you at the North Carolina Cooperators Gathering on May 22-23!
